Welcome to Miami

We left New York City this morning, ready for a long weekend of relaxing, dancing, and sun with another couple down in Miami.

IMG_0004 (640x480)We left our apartment spotless since Bo’s parents are actually taking advantage of the empty apartment this weekend with a quick NYC trip!

Our trip to JFK reminded me of one of Theodora’s crazy travel stories. We hit horrible traffic in the Midtown Tunnel even though it was before 7am, they were training new security guards at the airport, and our gate was at the VERY back of the Delta terminal. Many expletives and mini sprints later, we made it to our gate just in time to board.

But, the early flight was worth it because by 11:30 we were in Miami and heading across “Alligator Alley” to spend the afternoon with Bo’s “Gagi” in Naples.

IMG_2844 (640x478) IMG_2845 (640x478) The trip across the state was smooth and quick thanks to very little traffic and an amazing 70 MPH speed limit.

In less than 2 hours, we were in front of her home, waiting for her with open arms.

IMG_0008 (640x480) Her villa is perfect for one person, complete with two bedrooms and plenty of room for all the furniture Bo remembers from his youth.

IMG_0010 (640x480) IMG_0009 (640x480) Gagi took us to one of her favorite lunch spots, M Waterfront Grille. The view was amazing and the unpictured Strawberry Shrimp Salad I had was one of the best salads I’ve ever had, period. It was filled with delicious mixed greens, cucumbers, onions, fresh strawberries, blue cheese, and grilled shrimp!

IMG_2846 (640x478) After lunch, Gagi gave us a tour of Naples, including a stop at one of her favorite local beaches.

IMG_2848 (640x478) IMG_2849 (640x478) IMG_2852 (640x478) IMG_2850 (640x478) We didn’t have time to spend much time on the beach since Bo and I had to head back to Miami, but the beach itself was gorgeous. It amazed me how smooth the West coast of Florida is versus the East. The water was perfectly smooth except a few small ripples!

All too quickly, we were back on I-75 heading for the Miami Airport, where we had to pick up our fellow party people for the weekend, Michael and his girlfriend Jess.

IMG_2855 (600x600) Since their flight was delayed a few minutes, we made a quick stop in a Liquor Mart in order to save a few dollars. During our Atlanta and Bermuda trips, Bo and I were guilty of breaking into the mini bar for evening cocktails. Two hefty charges later, we’re sticking to Diet Tonic, Diet Coca Cola, and the rum and vodka we picked up today for our pregame drinks. Yes, we’re 28 years old and still believe in pregaming!

IMG_2856 (640x478) By 7pm we were back at the arrivals section of the Miami airport and ready to start the weekend party!

IMG_2861 (640x478)I’ll be back tomorrow with a recap of tonight’s festivities, but for now I’m going to enjoy this view while I sip my first cocktail of the trip, a lovely Vodka Diet Tonic.

IMG_0018 (640x480) Question: Are there any restaurants, clubs, or other places we should visit while we’re down in South Beach?

Prime Italian for food is always a favorite!

The west coast of Florida is really SO gorgeous.

Ummm, I’m 33 with two kids and I still believe in pre-partying! Liquor/wine/beer just tastes better when it costs less.

Hope you guys have a fabulous trip 🙂

I love the sight of palm trees and beaches! Wish I could live in a place like that 🙂

It does run the risk of being touristy but I like going to Joe’s Stone Crab when I’m in Miami.

Sam: We are hopefully going there tonight. Regardless of how touristy it may be, I think it’s a must do when down in South Beach!
