Marathon Must Have Giveaway

Running a second marathon has been harder than I expected due to this year’s travel schedule. But, due to your motivation and support each day, I was able to successfully train in multiple different cities across the US, knowing that you all were waiting to read that day’s run recap or race review. On the worst of days it were your comments, tweets, and Facebook messages that made me smile and pull on my running shoes even when I was tired and didn’t feel like it.

Therefore, as a thank you, I am hosting a Marathon Must Have giveaway to thank you all!  These are a few of my favorite things that I’ve relied on for my long runs, races, and training in between! As you can tell from the picture below, I’ll be wearing some of these items for the big day in two weeks!

IMG_5078 The winner will receive the following, in the color and size of their request, based on availability.

There are four ways to enter, each one will give you a better chance to win! Please leave me a comment letting me know you did.

Great giveaway! My favorite workout class in NYC is spinning at Crunch. There are two teachers I love: Melinda and Matt. They both motivate me SO much with their awesome music and inspiring screams during class.

Though Hot Power Yoga at PURE is a VERY close second. I took it twice, fell in love, then had my heart broken when I saw the membership prices. Hehe.

  3. Heidi February 7, 2011 / 9:47 pm

not entering the contest but what an awesome one! If you see a blonde girl named Liz hanging around the Union Square soul cycle tell her Heidi said hi 🙂 I miss her. She’s amazing and a soul cycle junkie 🙂 (she works there i think, we used to work together in greenwich)

  4. Lauren February 7, 2011 / 9:58 pm

I love ki power vinyasa at Earth Yoga on the upper east side. Fabulous workout – invigorating and relaxing! Great contest!

  5. Martha Lilian February 7, 2011 / 10:04 pm

I’m pretty new to this whole fitness thing, but I’m always pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoy Total Body Conditioning at NYSC in Rego Park. It is the perfect mix of strength and cardio!

  6. Lindsey February 7, 2011 / 10:05 pm

I’d love to try soul cycle! I’d say my favorite workout class in the city is core fusion at exhale. I love barre classes and it is one of the best.

  7. Blair February 7, 2011 / 10:06 pm

great giveaway! my favorite class in NYC is cardio sculpt at NYHRC — it combines cardio and weights (which i struggle to do on my own!) for an awesome workout. the instructor is great and always switches it up, so it never gets boring!

  8. Karla February 7, 2011 / 10:14 pm

Love this post! I HAVE to try that pasta.

I gave the new SoulCycle a “spin” on Sunday late a.m. and really dig it! The class felt SO good. I have to say that spinning is probably my favorite class at any gym, and I love Core Fusion too! In the future, I’d love to try a Tara Stiles yoga class. Can’t beat the price! 😉

  9. julie February 7, 2011 / 10:19 pm

Great giveaway girl! The best nyc class I’ve taken was the yoga class at joschi yoga in nyc! The teacher turned me 360 degrees midair!

  10. Jamie February 7, 2011 / 10:25 pm

I would love to try out Soul Cycle!

My favorite NYC class is Matt Pest at Crunch 59th street. He is beyond motivating and always makes me want to work extra hard. Also, it doesn;t hurt that he is very nice too look at:)

  11. Shannon February 7, 2011 / 10:26 pm

Great giveaway! I haven’t tried too many classes in NYC yet, but I do love Pure’s Hot Power class. However, my budget is more of a Yoga-to-the-People one, and I really enjoy their hot power classes at the 38th St. location. I’ve also been getting into Total Body Conditioning at NYSC lately – kind of like Body Pump (I guess?) – because it motivates me to lift weights, which I normally hate doing on my own.

  12. Brittany February 7, 2011 / 10:30 pm

Great giveaway! I’ve been wanting to check out soulcycle and union square is so convenient! I used to love pilates classes with weights at reab pilates and now my gym, 24 hour fitness, has added one too!

  13. Rebecca February 7, 2011 / 10:34 pm

awesome giveaway! would love to win considering since i definitely can’t afford their prices haha i took an awesome yoga class at prana power yoga on broadway and 17th once and was the sweatiest i’ve ever been after a class but i also have to give a shout out to FCITC’s winter bootcamp class that definitely kicked my ass!

  14. Liz February 7, 2011 / 10:38 pm

This is so exciting as I have been wanting to try Soul Cycle for FOREVER! My favorite class is at a small pilates studio on the Upper West Side called Pilates Shop/Yoga Garage. It is a tiny little space but the workout is amazing! The guy who runs the place was a dancer and when he teaches I just feel so much more graceful. Such a great giveaway!

  15. Lindsay February 7, 2011 / 10:49 pm

I have never been much of a class person, but am starting to get into it. I really enjoy the spin and strength training classes at Club H fitness and Sports Club LA. I love spinning and haven’t tried Soul Cycle yet but am dyinggg to! Great giveaway- hope I win and can try it soon 🙂

  16. megan February 7, 2011 / 10:50 pm

I love BPW: body, pilates and weights at The Sports Club/LA on the UES. It’s as close to body pump as I’ve found in NYC and the teacher is great. A total body workout in one hour!

  17. Lauren February 7, 2011 / 11:06 pm

Love love love this giveaway!! My favorite workout in new York is spinning at equinox. I used to go to kristen kenney’s class and miss it terribly 🙁

  18. Megan February 7, 2011 / 11:18 pm

I tried Kangoo this weekend and it was amazing. Bouncing around for an hour made me feel like a kid again.

  19. jg February 7, 2011 / 11:25 pm

As basic as it is, I absolutely love Total Body Conditioning at NYSC. I always leave the class with my muscles shaking and knowing that I just put in a solid hour of pumping iron without my usual vice of distracting myself.

  20. Tropical Eats February 7, 2011 / 11:25 pm

oh man what a fun giveaway! I’ve actually never been to a NYC fitness class yet.. saving up some $ so I can afford a membership by Summer hopefully! 🙂

  21. Caitlin February 7, 2011 / 11:29 pm

    Super fun giveaway!
My favorite classes are definitely Corefusion classes at Exhale – so different than anything I do on my own, so I feel like I’m getting a great workout! Although the Yogaworks class we took together is pretty high up there as one of the coolest classes I’ve taken 🙂

  22. helaine February 7, 2011 / 11:40 pm

Have you tried Stacy’s Soul Bands class at Soul Cycle. Truly AMAZING!

  23. Alexandra February 7, 2011 / 11:43 pm

Woah–what a SUPERB giveaway idea. Im a boring white girl with ZERO rhythm but I have to tell you that the hip hop class at NYSC is one of the most fun things ive ever done. It was fun, sexy and sweaty! I may not have 100% kept up with the choreogtaphy but i did manage to break it down during the freestyle part at the end.

  24. Allie February 7, 2011 / 11:49 pm

My fave NYC class is Darryl Gaines’ TranscendCycle. He is incredibly uplifting, on the beat with the best music, making you work and sweat but having a great ride too. His spin classes are out of this world, intense cardio mega sessions. And when he walks by your bike he recognizes how hard you are working with a nod and a dance, too fun! Am excited to try SoulCycle sometime soon in their new location, near where I live!

  25. Laura February 7, 2011 / 11:50 pm

love physique 57. completely kicks my ass every time no matter how in shape i think i am. i live right near the new soul cycle and would love to check it out!

  26. Marge February 8, 2011 / 1:10 am

I like Exhale. My abs are cut when I do classes there consistently and I feel like it shapes my rear very fast. Great workout.

  27. Janna ~ Just Flourishing February 8, 2011 / 7:33 am

Great giveaway – I’ve been wanting to give Soul Cycle a try!

I think my favorite workout class in NYC is a tie between 30/60/90 and Core Fusion. Very different classes – but both kick your butt!

  28. megan @ a very meg girl February 8, 2011 / 7:44 am

Awesaome giveaway! I have been wanting to try soul cycle for so long! My favorite workout is running! I can’t wait till the weather gets nice and I can run outside again!

  29. emily February 8, 2011 / 7:45 am

right now i am loving bikram yoga.

  30. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine February 8, 2011 / 8:02 am

I’ve tried very few exercise classes in NYC, which is why I’d love to try SoulCycle!! I need to fill the BodyPump void in my life.

  31. Lizzy February 8, 2011 / 8:27 am

I love spin classes at NYSC in rock center! Favorite weeknight meal is butternut squash ravioli with brussel sprouts, staple in my house. Your dinner looked delicous 🙂

  32. ally February 8, 2011 / 8:33 am

Core Fusion at Exhale is my favorite workout of all time! There is NOTHING like it. It is super challenging but also rewarding because you can actually feel your muscles getting stronger and tighter. Also- it isn’t too shabby to work out at a nice spa! The instructors are GREAT, the music is terrific, and the overall program is just the best. Highly recommend!

A close second place would go to the urban rebounding class at NYSC. It is so fun to jump up and down on a trampoline for 45 minutes and actually get a full workout while doing so! Burning calories in a way that is disguised as fun?? The best! 🙂

  33. Zoe February 8, 2011 / 8:48 am

Running in central park or exhale’s core fusion cardio. Would absolutely love to try soulcycle!

  34. Christie February 8, 2011 / 8:48 am

I love The Bar Method in Soho but I would love to add a little spinning into my routine. Ive been wanting to try SoulCycle for a while now!

  35. Jackie February 8, 2011 / 8:55 am

I love the 530 spin class at NYSC City Hall. The instructor always has awesome music!

  36. Megan @ A Very Meg Girl February 8, 2011 / 9:07 am

wohooooo made it before you picked!! I have been wanting to try Soul Cycle for so long so I am so excited for your giveaway!!

My favorite workout class is Spin at NYSC!

  37. Amy February 8, 2011 / 9:24 am

Bikram with Melissa! Its an intense class, but Melissa is motivating, and learns everyone’s names, so she can encourage us as a group and individually! I always feel great when I leave!

  38. Missy Maintains February 8, 2011 / 9:38 am

My favorite workout class is intenSati of course! I love that it is not just an amazing cardio workout but also a practice about living a life you love and thinking in a positive way. It is so much fun and the community is amazing.

  39. alp102000 February 8, 2011 / 9:43 am

Janet’s 60 minute Soul Survivor class @ Soul Cycle Tribeca. Cardio, core strengthening, weights and meditation all in one exhiliarating class. So good that you leave it feeling like your body is a temple that you don’t want to defile by eating crappy food afterwards!

  40. katie February 8, 2011 / 9:57 am

hmm, i’m not a big class person, but i do think my favorite of the ones i’ve taken is the bootcamp for marathoners class through pace4success – totally kicks your butt in 45 minutes, and i’m noticing a huge difference already!

  41. Theodora February 8, 2011 / 10:23 am

I’ve loved the Boot Camp for Marathoners class, too! I also really like SoulCycle and 30/60/90.

  42. gillian gossow February 8, 2011 / 10:24 am

SoulCycle! Its the only workout I have ever done where the time flies by and at the end of the class I think, I could totally do more. Its like therapy mixed in with cardio and you can loose yourself in the music. You can actually just turn your thoughts off and get the same high you would get from going out dancing at night with your friends, minus the drink calories! 🙂

  43. MaryBe February 8, 2011 / 10:47 am

Wonder if Caitlyn has seen number 3 on the Soul Etiquette list 😀

  44. Liz February 8, 2011 / 10:55 am

CoreFusion or ANYTHING abs! It hurts but I love waking up the next morning and really feeling it!

  45. Lauren February 8, 2011 / 11:22 am

mine is soul cycle UWS — love it! can’t wait to try this studio!

  46. alanna February 8, 2011 / 3:16 pm

I usually a chicken when it comes to new classes. I’ll occassionaly try out so spin, yoga or pilates at the gym, but more often than not I’m bored. I could really use a nice challenge.

  47. Kristina February 8, 2011 / 3:34 pm

Matthew Pasqua’s spin classes at Equinox Tribeca and Wall Street locations!

  48. Amanda Z February 8, 2011 / 4:11 pm

  49. Amber V February 8, 2011 / 4:53 pm

My favorite workout is Soul Cycle with Laurie.. when I can get in. The music in Nick’s classes is amazing, too. Great blog, glad soul retweeted you!

  66. Laura Gray October 24, 2011 / 11:11 am

    Hi

I would love to know a bit more about how you deal with the stress of fitting things in, i love to run and exercise in general but struggle greatly with fitting it all in!

    Laura

  67. Krissy - shiawase life October 24, 2011 / 11:13 am

    My question for you is:
Do you think you’ll ever train for a race longer than a marathon? (Ultra?)

  68. sarah October 24, 2011 / 11:46 am

I liked you on Facbook and now following you Twitter! @chickadeestatio

Love this giveaway! I have been running all summer and just did my 1st 10k. Thinking about doing a 1/2 in the spring. Any advice for training in the winter? I live in CT and once it starts snowing…I’m usually done running! I do have a treadmill, but I can only take so much of that!

  69. Stephanie October 24, 2011 / 11:53 am

Here’s my question. I have decided to run my first marathon in the spring of 2012! Im super excited and super nervous!! What would you say would be the BEST gear (clothes) for cold weather running? I dont mind running in the cold as long as I am dressed properly!

  72. Ericka @ The Sweet Life October 24, 2011 / 12:01 pm

I’ve done all the things you said (though been Twitter following for a long time already!) As for a question, how do you deal with getting burnt out on running? Say, you’ve been training for awhile and are just tired of those long runs but know you really still want to do the marathon?

First of all – you are such an inspiration! Your advice on marathon training has been great 🙂 My question – how do you work through the ‘wall’ while training or racing?

  77. Jill October 24, 2011 / 12:15 pm

Cool giveaway! I would like to know how you and Bo met. You seem like such a perfect couple.

  78. Dana October 24, 2011 / 12:32 pm

I have a question for you. Do you see yourself living in New York long term or do you think you’ll move at some point? Also, what was the hardest adjustment when getting used to life in New York?

  79. Megan S October 24, 2011 / 12:32 pm

Wow, awesome give away! My question would be: How did you make the decision to move up North to New York City? I also LOVE when you post about your outfits and clothing finds!

  80. Liz Marchese October 24, 2011 / 12:34 pm

I love this giveaway!!! My question for you would be how was your transition from living/ growing up in the south then moving to the north? I go to school in Philadelphia, but I’m from a beach town in Florida. People in the northeast aren’t exactly known for their southern hospitality.

  81. Andrea October 24, 2011 / 12:48 pm

I follow you on Twitter, tweeted the giveaway, and like you on Facebook! 🙂

My question is: how do you deal with exercise burn-out? I just finished training (and running) my 3rd marathon and with a month left to go I didn’t want to run anymore, go to the gym, or do anything really! Training is a commitment – how you deal when it’s coming to the end and you’re just tired!?

  82. lauren October 24, 2011 / 12:49 pm

Love this giveaway! I am also running my 2nd marathon the weekend after NYC. We’re running the Outer Banks Marathon and I am excited!

Question: What southern staples do you miss while living in NYC? (I know I’d miss quite a few, being an NC girl :)).

    Thanks!

  88. Jill October 24, 2011 / 1:06 pm

I know first hand how difficult it is to travel for work and try to maintain a healthy lifestyle, you are doing a great job!

Question: No matter what distance I run: 5k, 5 miles, 1/2 marathon or a full marathon…the first 2 miles always seem to be a struggle. Do you have any advice for starting a race feeling strong?

  89. Kristen October 24, 2011 / 1:07 pm

Great giveaway! I work for an adventure race company that puts on mud run/obstacle course races (like Warrior Dash). Would you ever consider doing one? I’d love to offer you a free entry! We’re coming to Brooklyn on November 19.

    A future question:

I know you are extremely busy but somehow you seem to do it all. What time do you go to bed at night and get up in the am? What do you do in your downtime? TV? Read? How much downtime do you have?

And a question that I would like to be answered would be how does your training transition once the cold months hit? NYC is not only cold in the winter, but pretty messy…do you run inside? Or layer up and get outside?

  116. Steph October 24, 2011 / 2:40 pm

I know you say it has a lot to do with the support of your blog friends and your real friends/family, but do you have any mantras you live by to just lace up your shoes and get going? I am a graduate student who also works almost full-time and I struggle every. single. day. to find the motivation to just get out there and run. I’ve run a few half marathons so any advice you can give on how to get to 26.2 mentally would be amazing! 🙂

This giveaway is sweet! I live in my pace setter skirt from Lulu, just ran Chicago marathon in it a couple weeks ago. My question- what is the best thing you have changed in training for your second marathon compared to your first? Speedwork, nutrition, strength training?

  260. Amanda October 25, 2011 / 3:48 pm

just followed you on twitter and re-tweeted your blog contest link! also, a question: what is your favorite running pattern during the week? do you prefer long runs on the weekends and short runs during the week? or do you alternate long and short runs more frequently? thanks!

Great giveaway. My questions: Your race goals for after the NYCM? How much sleep do you average per night? Your favorite running routes in New York?

  268. Margaret October 25, 2011 / 9:46 pm

Yay! Here I come NYCM! I’ve done all the training and I’m ready to kick butt, and make my dinner reservations. 🙂 I think on question and answer I’d like to hear about alternatives to running, because after marathon training I always get so burnt out on running, that I have to get creative to find something to keep me sweating and healthy, until I fall in love with running again… it is a love/hate. I hope you have a wonderful run through NY next week, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for good weather.

  269. Rachel October 25, 2011 / 10:33 pm

Would you ever run an international marathon? Great giveaway

  270. Lisa Fine October 25, 2011 / 10:52 pm

Sweet! I would love for you to talk about what it’s like to live and dine in NYC, and how to balance eating out with saving money and cooking at home.

    Awesome Giveaway!!!!
I am running NYC too and it’s my first marathon EVER!!!! I’ve been stalking you and Theodora to get the inside scoop on the race! If I could only catch your ear for about thirty minutes…
Do you know your race number and corral? Again, I’m a secret blog stalker 🙂
I’m also secretly jealous of your blog meet ups! Definitely not as many “healthy/running” bloggers in Fairfield County and I’m too afraid to reach out and invade others “circles”.
I’m crossing my fingers and my toes that I win this one…if only for the compression sleeves!!!
    Happy Almost Wednesday!!!

  279. Lauren K October 26, 2011 / 12:54 am

Q&A: I know you mentioned before that you were going to cut back on some the strength training and focus more on agility exercises. In general, do you think the weight training has helped or hurt your training?

Good luck with the marathon–I have enjoyed reading for awhile!

q: what would your dream race be? any destination spots??

  286. Ashley @ Freckles & Spice October 26, 2011 / 12:59 am

Really great giveaway. So now that I am increasing my mileage, I’m finding that it is a physical wall I am hitting not mental. Around 3-4 miles my mind has come to terms with the fact that I’m running and I’m not stopping. But my legs feel like bricks and my hips start to get really tight. My question is have you ever experienced this? And how do I decide if it is right for me to train for further races in the future?

  287. Maria October 26, 2011 / 1:14 am

My question is about your routine and fitting it all in and maybe some
More detailed workouts with your trainer not the whole thing obviously but weather or not it was total body or upper body stuff like that. Also what do you think has been the most effective in weight loss this time around with the marathon and PT!

  288. Samme October 26, 2011 / 1:14 am

Congratulations on your dedication for training for your second marathon! My question for you is how you balance your hectic work day, time with Bo, running/gym and social time? Do you plan out your workouts and meals to be cooked at home at the beginning of the week day-by-day or do you have set goals each week that you hope to accomplish, in no particular order? You mention that you work VERY long hours so your dedication to training is truly motivational and inspiring!
