30/60/90 Equinox Workout Review

can feel it, 2011 is going to be a great year!

I was still a bit groggy this morning as our friends, Mike and Liz, who just got engaged over the holiday came over for dinner and drinks last night. I was the lame wife who went to bed at midnight due to exhaustion. Oh well, I had a hot morning workout date!

This morning I met Ali and Sara again for a wonderful workout class. As you may recall, we enjoyed a Saturday triple threat Equinox session before the holiday together. Since then, we’ve been talking about trying more classes together. Per Sara’s recommendation, we tried the infamous 30/60/90 this morning.

I knew it was going to be a sweat session after reading the description alone.

30/60/90:  Created by Kristi Molinaro. A high intensity interval training workout consisting of cardio, strength training, plyometrics and static holds designed to get you into the best shape of your life. Very challenging but modifiable for all levels.

When we heard this morning’s class was only going to be 45 minutes, followed by 10 minutes of abs, we were disappointed as we were hoping for an hour session. By the end of the class, we couldn’t imagine doing the workouts one minute longer. This morning’s class revolved around the step, body bar, and our own body weight.

Kristi Molinaro's 30/60/90®

This class is very effective due to the interval training. It is designed to rev up the metabolism similar to high-intensity interval training such as HIIT. I will warn you, there is no programmed break during the class and it is not for beginners. However, the teachers do give some adjustments that students can do if their muscles are weary. For example. by the last set, I wanted to throw the body bar out the window and put it on the floor so I could ensure correct form for the last few sumo squats jumps. An interview with the 30/60/90 creator can be seenhere which also features some of the exercises.

I loved everything about 30/60/90 today: great music, no complicated choreography, helpful instructor, great company, and the class was surprisingly not full!

Breakfast

After our workout, Ali and I headed into Fish’s Eddy as I needed a new work breakfast bowl. The shop is always so fun and bright! I took the bowl for a test ride this morning. I love the fun, bright color and can’t wait to use it at work.

I have to shower and get ready because we’re off to see Promises, Promises! Bo’s parents gave us tickets for my birthday and I’m so excited to see the final show this afternoon.

Divas Half Marathon on Long Island

I stated on Twitter earlier that I was definitely not in the best of moods after my third day of consumer research which meant 10 hours of sitting and listening to interviews.

It is clear that I’ve grown accustomed to a few things:

1) Morning workouts

2) Eating my own meals

3) Interacting with others

The past few days have meant very early departure times from our office so we could reach NJ before the height of commute traffic. This morning I wasn’t able to squeeze in a morning workout and was moody all day. In addition, we weren’t able to bring our own meals since we were in the middle of research at lunch time. Today that meant Panera which was okay but Monday and Tuesday that meant catered lunch. Research means a lot of listening and very little talking. I’m used to leading and participating in meetings all day long so this was a big change from my usual schedule.

But, instead of letting this mood ruin my evening I took some suggestions:

1) Get some exercise

2) Call a friend

3) Do something that makes you happy

I walked the 2 miles home from work instead of taking the Subway. The weather is absolutely gorgeous outside and this gave me a small amount of much needed movement.

I called my friend who passed her PT certification (Yay Chrissie!) to congratulate her and then spoke to my parents the rest of the way home. These two phone calls definitely made me smile. (Thanks mom & dad)

I registered for the October 3rd Diva Half Marathon Divas Half Marathon at Long Island and Girls' 5K logo
when I got home. I’ve been talking about this for a while after hearing that Dori, Melissa, and Rebecca have all registered I decided to pull the trigger! It wasn’t cheap but it will definitely be fun. Now I just have to figure out how to get to Long Island! 🙂 This should hopefully fit into my NYC Marathon training plan perfectly.

I’ve actually never been to Long Island so this race should be really pretty and allow me to see a new area. In addition, it’s nice and flat which will be a treat! I’m looking forward to long training runs with these ladies around the city! Is anyone else doing this half marathon?

Hump Day Eats

Sorry this post didn’t make it up last night but by the time I got home from the Eggland’s Best event last night I was one tired gal! Yesterday I felt like the Energizer bunny. I just kept going, going, and going!

Over the past week, I have made a concerted effort to track and photograph all of my food. While I may not always post them on the blog, it has kept my accountable of what I’m eating. One of the reasons for this change is that my running is on hold due to my back injury. I was fearful of gaining weight with decreased workout intensity. The second reason for this change is my re-commitment to Weight Watchers.

This morning I gained positive affirmation that accountability works!

I was down 3.6 lbs at Weight Watchers this morning!

Wahoo! I think the two biggest things that made the difference were diligent tracking and routine. Last weekend and this past weekend I made Sunday trips to Whole Foods in order to ensure I had all the ingredients necessary for healthy meals during the day AND in the evening. Unfortunately, this means that you’ll most likely be seeing similar pictures day in day out.

Now, for the Hump Day Eats! 🙂

The usual suspects included Venti Unsweetened Iced Green Tea (0 pts), 1/2 c 0% Fage (1 pt),  1/2 c fresh blueberries (0 pts) , and Weight Watchers Oatmeal (2 pts).

Lunch

Bo and I normally make a large meal on Sunday to ensure that there are leftovers for lunches and dinners. This week was no exception as I actually enjoyed quinoa salad and green bean salad through Wednesday!

Dinner

Tonight’s dinner was compliments of Eggland’s Best though it was actually prepared by the bloggers in attendance. This was a wonderful event that I will recap thoroughly this evening when I have time to do it the appropriate justice.

But, until then, here is a preview!
