NYCM Training Week 1 and A Giveaway

This year, believe it or not, I’m more excited than ever to kick off New York City Marathon training. Last year was my first time and I was a complete rookie. It showed in my results and my training plan. I ran a lot, including some weeks of 40+ miles, but never included any cross training, hill training, or speed training.

Theodora highly recommended him after she discovered his blog on Tumblr and then enrolled him to help with her training. Bo and I are both relying on Mark’s talent and experience to help us train injury free while also improving each of our speeds.

This week’s plan is below:

Monday: Basic Run 4 miles with 4 striders

Tuesday: Personal Training

Wednesday: 3 miles + spin class

Thursday: Personal Training

Friday: Rest Day

Saturday: 4 mile NYRR race+ 3 miles= 7 miles

Sunday: 3 mile recovery run

I’m so excited! This morning the four miles wasn’t as easy as I’d hoped due to a case of tired legs but since I have a training plan in place I knew that throwing in the towel wasn’t an option. Instead, I kept it slow and comfortable until getting to the strides.

Two thumbs up for marathon training season. Even though it means that Friday night’s out are a thing of the past, I’ll catch up with friends more on foot than in person, and that foam rolling and Epsom salt baths become a weekly staple, I’m still excited to get started!

Going Gaga for Monday

Today was exactly what I expected, a Monday post vacation. In case you’re catching up, Bo and I returned from Bermuda last night. Some of my blogger buddies helped me enjoy my vacation more by contributing guest posts and Bo even helped out!

My work day was long, the food was basic, healthy, and delicious.

IMG_2479 (640x478)                                     Bananas, oatmeal, chopped pecans, and lots of cinnamon

IMG_2482                        Romaine, chopped tomatoes, cucumbers, feta cheese, garbanzo beans,                                          green beans, peppers, and low fat balsamic vinaigrette

My spin class smelled like vodka coladas, wine, and Corona Light as I sweat through a great 45 minute spin session.

But, my weekly trip to the grocery store was made a bit more eventful when I saw a crowd outside the Gramercy Park Hotel. For a few brief minutes I forgot how heavy my groceries were and enjoyed the life of the paparazzi. Let me tell you, it isn’t gorgeous. These camera folks were tired, annoyed with their long wait, and using shoulders and elbows to knock people around.

Luckily, I showed up just as the guards were giving the thumbs up.

Believe it or not, she couldn’t walk in her amazing foot high black shoes. Her two body guards were literally supporting her on each side. I guess her shoes are for posing only?

Last but not least, the winner of the giveaway is THEODORA!

Stress Relief Inspiration & Winner

Happy Friday! I hope you’re having a wonderful day and are ready for the weekend! I am definitely ready for some rest and relaxation after a crazy work week and some intense workouts. My muscles are officially mush after this morning’s personal training appointment!

Bo and I are en route to Atlanta right now! I’m so excited to see some of my favorite Atlanta friends this weekend! We’re heading down for a fun wedding but get to see lots of friends while we’re in town. We also have plans to enjoy brunch at Flying Biscuit not once but twice!! Be still my heart as I dream of whole wheat biscuits and their delicious egg dishes!

I loved reading your comments for the giveaway! People relax in such different ways it’s amazing! If you’re like me, the weekend is the perfect time to get some much needed rest and relaxation! I highly recommend checking out this list for some great inspiration!

  • Dan: yoga, massage, and eating healthy dark chocolate of at least 60% chocolate
  • Erin: I like to go for a long walk with my iPod. Just unplugging and breathing in fresh air helps the stress fade away.
  • Susan: I’ve picked up meditation. Well… slowly trying to do it daily. I’ve been picking up ways to do it anywhere, since I can’t always find a quiet place to hide. Its been amazing.
  • Emily: I go to hot yoga whenever possible!
  • Jessica: My healthy ways of reducing stress include running and doing yoga. Unhealthy includes too much napping and time spent on the couch reading blogs, while munching on skittles
  • Andrea: Going out for a run always seems to help relieve stress and gives me an opportunity to do my best thinking. Taking a bath with bath salts would be the icing on the cake!
  • Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine A few pieces of dark chocolate with some hot tea always helps me unwind. For some reason, the good-quality dark stuff just makes me sit down and savor it.
  • laurenI spend time with my dogs, Lola & Kota. No matter what type of day I’ve had, what kind of mood I’m in – they don’t care. They want nothing more than to hang out with me and tails are wagging like crazy!
  • Diana-I like to relax with deep breaths, walks outside with lots of sun and fresh air, cuddling with my corgi, reading, cooking, and baking.
  • Meghan– The best way to relieve stress? What I should say is yoga but what I usually do is shop
  • Jane– My favorite way to destress is a glass of wine and fun tv (like Glee or Grey’s) :) though a run or yoga is a close second.

So, without further ado, congratulations to Mac who is the lucky winner of the Ahava Muscle Soothing Soak giveaway!

The Best Stress and Anxiety Relief Giveaway

Over the past few days, my life has been getting more and more stressful. Due to some circumstances out of my control, I’ll be doing two jobs for the next few days. This means longer hours and a steeper learning curve.

Instead of heading to the office this morning, I headed down to Philadelphia with my new team. An iced green tea and unpictured spinach feta wrap were enjoyed during our smooth trip down.

IMG_2002 (478x640) In between work discussions I relaxed with some new music and enjoyed the scenery.

IMG_2003 (480x640)

I forgot how much I love the Main Line suburbs and the Philadelphia skyline!  IMG_2004 (478x640)I said a quick hello to the Schuylkill River as we passed over it! I can’t wait to return in two weeks and enjoy a run with Meghann along Kelly Drive!IMG_2007 (640x478)While the trip down to Philadelphia was great, spending all day left me absolutely exhausted! By the time I got home at 8pm my feet were swollen and tired from visiting stores, my mind was whirling with the many unanswered emails in my work inbox, and I was stressed about what the next few weeks hold.

Over the past few months, I’ve discovered every unhealthy way to deal with stress including a few to many happy hours, too many sweets, and too little exercise. Luckily, over the past few weeks, I’ve done my best to fight stress and anxiety with healthy alternatives. But, nothing I’ve discovered melts away the stress of the day like a warm bath. Tonight that relaxing bath received an upgrade thanks to a new treat I purchased today: Ahava Muscle Soothing Eucalyptus Mineral Bath Salts. IMG_2022 (480x640)After hearing rave reviews of this product from friends and co-workers alike, I finally splurged today!  IMG_2023 (480x640) This 32 oz jar of soothing bath salts doesn’t come cheap but it does more than any bath salt or Epsom salt I’ve tried before. The descriptions sums up these salts perfectly!

    • 100% Pure Dead Sea Salts provide mineral healing to help relax tight muscles, soften skin, and release stress
    • Therapeutic essential oils of eucalyptus revive tired, aching muscles

The smell is stronger than most bath salts but the strong eucalyptus scent is what ads to the sensorial affects. The salts literally pulled the pain and swelling out of my legs and feet!

In fact, I’m so in love with these salts, that I will be giving one away to a lucky reader! In order to help other stressed bloggers and readers alike, I want to dedicate a post to your stress relief ideas!

You can enter this giveaway a few different ways:
